We went to see the Route 66 Museum in Elk City, and it turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected.

It had old cars, older machines, and a full-size model town set up to show what these places were like when Route 66 was the road people used to cross the country. It was not really historic in the serious museum sense, but that did not matter much. It was fun to walk through.

The best part was getting a feel for how towns were built around travelers. Gas stations, shops, roadside stops, little bits of everyday life, all arranged around the idea that people were passing through and needed a place to stop for a while.

Sometimes a museum does not need to be heavy to be worth remembering. This one was just a good travel stop, full of cars and machines and old Route 66 charm.
