One of the things we did in Utah was go to the Great Salt Lake.

We had heard stories about it, and when we got there it really was fairly impressive. It is one of those places that feels strange right away, partly because of the size and partly because it does not feel like a normal lake at all.

It was also fairly smelly.

There were dead things everywhere, and the walk up to the shoreline was nasty. That is honestly the part I remember most. Not the water, not the view, not even the novelty of standing there at the Great Salt Lake. It was the smell of death and decay around the shore.

We did still go out into it. We played around with it a bit, felt it out, and got the experience of being there instead of just looking at it from a distance.

I am glad we went. It was an experience worth having.

I am just not sure it is one worth repeating.
